Helping Hand Jaipur Society / Children’s Education & Vocational Training

Free Education for Underprivileged Children

To provide ongoing premium Free Education, Vocational Training and Guidance, from Pre-School to Senior Secondary, for underprivileged children in preparing them for entering the workforce and becoming responsible and contributing citizens.

Free education includes – textbooks, copybooks, stationery, full uniforms (summer & winter), bus transportation, nutritional lunches, educational & social excursions, and full medical care (including regular dental & eye checks with required follow up treatments, and weekly health checks by school employed nurse).

In August 2005 a borrowed bus arrived at the Kathputli Slum to collect 27 children for their first day of school. An established Jaipur school provided two classrooms for us to begin educating our children from 2.30 to 4.30pm. These two hours of classes were a blessing as the concentration span of the children at that time was just two hours. This would be the initial step of a journey of transforming their destinies and that of many more

Within a few months our student numbers increased to beyond 100, so we relocated to an unused school building. We stayed there for three years (2006-09) until once again we had outgrown our facilities. Since 2009 we have been in rented premises where we presently have 400 students studying from Nursery to Secondary. All teaching staff are B.ED qualified or Teacher Diploma qualified.

Subjects currently taught – Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Maths, Computers, Science, Soc Science, Moral Science, Gen Knowledge, Arts & Crafts, Drawing. In 2019 our fourth batch of students graduated, in total now fourteen are continuing with studies and training in commerce, arts and other education.  Their peers, to follow in coming years, have desires to become doctors, teachers, nurses, lawyers, engineers, and businessmen and women, etc.

Many children’s vocational desires are developed through their educational opportunities. Starting from 2021-22 Helping Hands School will be advancing to a new level, by supplementing the education provided to secondary and senior secondary students with vocational training programs. Vocational training until today, is something rarely seen in the Indian schooling system.
